Slack

Easy5 minFree

Legacy Slack bots were discontinued in March 2025. You must create a new Slack app.

Documentation has moved to docs.slack.dev (the new Slack developer docs).

Prerequisites

  • A Slack workspace you have admin access to
  • A Slack account

Setup Steps

1

Create a new Slack App

Go to the Slack API dashboard and click "Create New App." Choose "From scratch" and select your workspace.

https://api.slack.com/apps
2

Configure bot token scopes

Go to OAuth & Permissions. Under "Bot Token Scopes," add: chat:write, channels:read, and app_mentions:read. These are the minimum scopes needed.

3

Install to workspace

Click "Install to Workspace" at the top of the OAuth & Permissions page. Authorize the app. Copy the "Bot User OAuth Token" that starts with xoxb-.

4

Enable Event Subscriptions

Go to Event Subscriptions and toggle it on. Subscribe to these bot events: app_mention and message.channels. The Request URL will be provided by Hatcher when you configure the integration.

5

Configure in Hatcher

Go to your agent's Integrations tab. Select Slack, paste your Bot User OAuth Token, and save.

Configure in Hatcher

Navigate to your agent's Integrations tab and fill in the following fields:

Bot Token
xoxb-1234567890-...

Bot User OAuth Token from OAuth & Permissions

Signing Secret
abc123...

Found in Basic Information > App Credentials

Testing

  1. 1Open your Slack workspace
  2. 2Invite the bot to a channel: /invite @YourBot
  3. 3Mention the bot: @YourBot hello
  4. 4The agent should respond in the thread or channel
  5. 5Check the Logs tab in Hatcher to verify
